We had a bit of coach swap this week and Chris Betts, Eric and I could not have been more delighted to have been at Hove to have witnessed this titanic battle. Without doubt, this was expected to be the Bs hardest league match against a side that has always run our As close - Pulborough in turn clearly expected to win well having beaten Worthing Bs 45 - 0 in the first round.
The game was taken physically to Pulborough from the start and after an early Pulborough try, Hove took and held the lead 7 -5 at the break. 2 quick Pulborough tries in the second half took it to 15 -5 but still Hove came back and after having a (perfectly good !) try disallowed, they scored again with a great forward effort at the end to make it 12- 15.
A moral victory therefore and their coaches looked completely shattered as events unfolded. Great stuff and it was only inexperience on Hove's part that was the difference. A great all round effort but particular mention must be made of the forwards who were all immense. On that showing, there is no reason why the Bs should not be looking to win all of their remaining league matches.
The only sad note was a serious injury to our hooker, Louis Johnson, who was taken from the pitch by ambulance with a broken collar bone. He is recovering well though and in true spirit is asking when he can play again. I know you will all join me in sending him our warmest good wishes for a speedy recovery.
